🧒 Early Life & Fame
Born on July 16, 2007 in Virar, Maharashtra, Ayush Mhatre was passionate about cricket at the age of six. To pursue his dreams, he would travel around 80 kilometres by train daily from Virar to Churchgate in Mumbai to train at the Wankhede Stadium. His perseverance paid off and he went on to represent Mumbai in various age groups.
🏏 Domestic career and phenomenal performances
Mhatre’s domestic debut came during the Irani Cup in October 2024, where he showcased his potential with a brilliant innings of 176 against Maharashtra. He then played a restrained innings of 52 against Baroda in Vadodara, further cementing his reputation as a promising young talent.
In List A cricket, Mhatre made headlines by becoming the youngest player to score more than 150 runs in a men’s senior category match, surpassing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s previous record. He achieved the feat by scoring a brilliant 181 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
🏏 T20 career and IPL debut
Mhatre’s T20 career began with Mumbai Indians in the 2025 IPL season. He made an instant impact with a blazing 94 off 48 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore but missed out on his maiden IPL century. Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming lauded his performance and also praised his technique and composure under pressure.

In the 2025 youth Test series against England, Mhatre captained the Indian U-19 team and delivered a match-winning performance by scoring a quick century off 64 balls, leading his team to a challenging win.
